You set up ManyChat for the comment-to-DM funnel. "Comment BOOK and I'll send you the link" worked, and now your inbox is busy. The trouble is that most of the messages aren't campaign replies. They're "are you open on bank holiday Monday?", "how much is a full set?" and "can I move my Thursday appointment?" Meanwhile the phone rings while you're with a client and nobody picks up. If you are searching for a ManyChat alternative, that mismatch is usually why: the tool is built for marketing flows, and what you need is a receptionist.

ManyChat and Klugon both put AI into Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, but they start from different places. ManyChat is a chat marketing platform for creators, brands and e-commerce: comment triggers, follow-to-DM, story replies, broadcasts, lead capture and AI replies across Instagram, TikTok, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email. Klugon is an AI assistant for local and service businesses that answers phone calls, website chats and Meta messages with one set of knowledge, books appointments into a built-in calendar and puts every conversation in one inbox.

ManyChat does plenty that Klugon doesn't, including comment automation, broadcasts, TikTok, SMS and email flows. We say so plainly below. ManyChat's prices are from ManyChat's pricing page as of October 2026, and Klugon's from our own pricing page.

The short verdict

Choose ManyChat if your growth comes from social content and you want to turn comments, story replies and follows into DM conversations, capture emails, run broadcasts and send people down scripted flows. It covers TikTok, SMS and email as well as Meta channels, has a free plan, and its paid plans start far below Klugon's.

Choose Klugon if you are a local business whose customers message you and ring you with real questions, and you want one AI that answers both, from your own prices and policies, and books the appointment. Klugon answers phone calls with an AI voice agent, which ManyChat doesn't list, and has a built-in booking calendar with services, staff and opening hours.

Or use both. ManyChat for the campaign funnel on Instagram and TikTok, Klugon's voice product for the phone. That split works well, and we cover it below.

What ManyChat is

ManyChat calls itself the leading Instagram automation platform and an official Meta-approved partner. It is built to turn social engagement into conversations and sales.

Triggers and flows

ManyChat's core is the flow builder. A trigger starts a conversation: someone comments a keyword on a post or reel, follows your account, replies to a story or sends a DM. The flow then sends messages, asks questions, collects an email address or phone number, tags the contact and sends links. ManyChat's Free plan help article gives examples such as starting a conversation from a comment, welcoming new followers and replying to story responses.

Manychat AI

From the Pro plan, ManyChat's pricing page says you can "teach AI about your business and tone of voice" and let it reply to DMs, answer FAQs, reply to positive comments and guide conversations towards your goals.

Broadcasts and other channels

Pro and above add broadcasts on WhatsApp, Telegram and Messenger, and ManyChat can send SMS and email. Its Pro plan article describes moving leads from Instagram or TikTok into WhatsApp to close sales, integrating with email, SMS, CRM and commerce tools, and API access.

Who ManyChat is for

ManyChat's site is organised around creators, e-commerce, social media marketers, agencies and brands. Its examples are lead magnets, email sign-ups and DM sales from content. That is a different job from a front desk.

What Klugon is

Klugon is an AI receptionist for local businesses that answers calls and messages with one set of knowledge. You subscribe to the products you need:

  • AI social agent: answers WhatsApp, Instagram direct messages and Facebook Messenger. See Instagram DM automation.
  • AI voice agent: answers inbound phone calls on a Klugon number, or your existing number through call forwarding. See AI phone receptionist.
  • AI chatbot: the website chat widget, added with one script tag.

The assistant replies in the customer's own conversation from your knowledge base: prices, services, opening hours, policies, directions. It checks real availability and books appointments, records lead details, suggests related products from your catalogue and flags conversations that need a person.

What Klugon doesn't do, stated plainly: it doesn't watch comments, run keyword triggers, send follow-to-DM messages or send broadcasts on WhatsApp or Messenger. It has no TikTok, no SMS, no outbound calls, no automated follow-up sequences and no abandoned-cart messages. It replies to people who message or call you.

ManyChat alternative pricing: Active Contacts vs conversations

How ManyChat charges

ManyChat moved to a new pricing model on 2 March 2026. As of October 2026, its pricing page shows:

ManyChat planPriceActive Contacts per monthChannels
Free$025Any 2 of Instagram, TikTok, Messenger, Telegram
Essential$14/month billed annually ($168/year)250Any 2 of Instagram, TikTok, Messenger, Telegram
Pro$29/month billed annually ($348/year); $39 billed monthly2,500Any 3, including WhatsApp, SMS and email
Business$69/month billed annually ($828/year)7,500All channels
Advanced$139/month billed annually ($1,668/year)25,000All channels

An Active Contact is one person you interact with in a monthly billing period, however many messages you exchange. Beyond the included number, each extra contact costs between $0.10 (Essential, monthly) and $0.0028 (Advanced, annual). ManyChat says prices exclude tax and depend on your billing country, and you set an overage threshold to cap the extra cost. The Free plan allows up to four live automations and shows "Powered by Manychat" the first time you message a contact.

How Klugon charges

Klugon's products are priced separately, in US dollars, with 20% off for yearly billing.

Klugon productStarterBusinessScale
AI social agent (WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger)$79/month, 300 conversations$249/month, 1,500 conversations$449/month, 3,500 conversations
AI voice agent$99/month, 1,000 minutes$299/month, 3,600 minutes$499/month, 6,000 minutes
AI chatbot (website)$49/month, 100 conversations$149/month, 400 conversations$499/month, 2,000 conversations

A connected WhatsApp number is $19/month, a phone number is $9/month and extra voice minutes are $15 per started 100. A conversation is one customer thread. New conversations on social and chat stop at 110% of the allowance until the next period; ongoing ones carry on.

A worked cost example

Assumptions: a hair salon gets about 220 Instagram and WhatsApp conversations a month, and about 160 phone calls averaging three minutes (480 minutes). It wants both answered and appointments booked.

  • ManyChat: Pro at $39/month (or $29 billed annually) covers 2,500 Active Contacts across three channels, which is far more messaging capacity per dollar than Klugon. ManyChat's pricing page doesn't list phone call answering, so the 160 calls still need someone at the desk or another service.
  • Klugon: social Starter $79 + WhatsApp number $19 + voice Starter $99 + phone number $9 = $206/month, or $170/month on yearly billing ($63 + $19 + $79 + $9). Both channels are answered from the same knowledge and booked into the same calendar.

If messages were the salon's only problem, ManyChat would be the cheaper tool. Klugon earns its price when the phone is part of the problem, or when you want appointments booked against real staff availability rather than a link.

Channels and what triggers a reply

ManyChat's channels

ManyChat lists Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Messenger and Telegram on every plan, and WhatsApp, SMS and email from Pro. Free and Essential connect two channels, Pro three, and Business and Advanced all of them. Replies can be triggered by comments, follows, story replies, keywords or DMs, and broadcasts can go out on WhatsApp, Telegram and Messenger.

Klugon's channels

Klugon covers the phone, browser voice, website chat, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. A reply is always triggered by the customer contacting you: a DM, a WhatsApp message, a chat or a call.

  • WhatsApp connects through Meta's WhatsApp Cloud API with your own Meta app, business number and access token. Social Starter connects one WhatsApp number, Business up to 3 and Scale up to 10, at $19 a month each, all answered by the same assistant. See the WhatsApp AI chatbot page.
  • Instagram and Messenger connect through your Facebook Page with a Page access token. Instagram needs Meta app review for the messaging permission before the public can reach the assistant.
  • Phone is inbound only. Buy a number, forward your existing number or connect a SIP trunk on voice Business and above. Numbers can be added once the trial ends.
  • Website chat is one script tag. See AI chatbot for your website.

Klugon doesn't offer TikTok, SMS or email messaging, and we don't market its Telegram connection.

Scripted flows vs answers from your knowledge

This is the practical difference you'll feel day to day.

How ManyChat answers

ManyChat began with scripted flows: buttons, quick replies, keywords and branches you design. That is precise and predictable, and ideal for a campaign where every person should get the same lead magnet. ManyChat's AI, on Pro and above, adds free-text replies, FAQ answers and comment replies trained on your business and tone.

How Klugon answers

Klugon has no flow builder. You give it your knowledge (PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown or CSV files, pasted FAQs, single web pages and a scan of up to eight pages of your site) plus your services, prices, hours and products. The assistant answers each message in context and uses tools to check slots, book, cancel, search products and save leads. You shape its behaviour with settings and instructions rather than diagrams.

A sample exchange on Instagram. The business is made up.

The same knowledge answers the same question on the phone. That consistency is the reason to have one assistant for both.

Booking appointments

Booking with ManyChat

ManyChat's pricing and plan pages, as checked in October 2026, don't list a built-in booking calendar. Flows can send a booking link, collect details or pass data to other tools through integrations, which works if your booking system already lives elsewhere.

Booking with Klugon

Klugon's built-in calendar uses your opening hours, time zone, services and durations, staff assignments, slot interval, buffer, minimum notice and closed dates, and checks clashes per staff member. The assistant books inside the conversation and gives a reference. In messaging it can reschedule and cancel too; on calls it can book and cancel.

Klugon sends no confirmation texts or emails and no reminders. On voice and social Business plans and above, it can also check Google, Outlook or Apple calendars and send Calendly links after setup; that isn't automatic two-way sync. See AI appointment booking.

Answering the phone

ManyChat's pages don't list phone call answering. Klugon's voice agent answers inbound calls 24 hours a day while your plan is live, in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese or Arabic. On a call it can describe services, check slots, book and cancel, search products, look up your knowledge and save a lead. Each call shows in your inbox next to your DMs.

What it can't do: transfer a caller to a person, record calls, take payment, reschedule on a call or make outbound calls. When a caller needs a person, it takes their details and flags the conversation.

Marketing, leads and follow-up

This is ManyChat's home ground.

  • Lead capture: both tools capture contact details. ManyChat tags contacts and syncs to Google Sheets, email and CRM tools. Klugon stores leads in its own list with statuses, exports them as CSV and, on Business plans and above, can add leads who opted in to a Mailchimp audience; see the Mailchimp integration.
  • Broadcasts: ManyChat sends broadcasts on WhatsApp, Telegram and Messenger from Pro. Klugon sends no messaging broadcasts. It only lets you send manual email campaigns to opted-in contacts.
  • Follow-ups: ManyChat flows can follow up over time. Klugon has no automated follow-ups, sequences or cart recovery.
  • Selling in DMs: both can point customers to products. Klugon suggests related products from your catalogue; read more on the AI sales assistant page.

Handover to your team

ManyChat's handover

ManyChat includes a live inbox on every plan, so you can reply to messages from the app. Pro adds custom labels and rules to sort conversations, and Business adds a shared team inbox with assignments.

Klugon's handover

Klugon flags a conversation as needing a person, shows it in the inbox and, on Business plans and above, notifies Slack or Zapier. You can reply to WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger threads from the inbox within Meta's 24-hour window. The AI isn't paused when a conversation is flagged, and there is no assignment, labels or priority. Phone calls can't be transferred; your team calls the customer back.

Setup effort

Setting up ManyChat

ManyChat connects your social accounts inside its app and offers more than 60 ready-made templates. A simple comment-to-DM automation can be set up from a template; a full funnel with tags, branches and broadcasts takes longer to design.

Setting up Klugon

Klugon's Meta setup is more technical. WhatsApp needs a Meta app, a WhatsApp Business phone number ID and an access token. Instagram and Messenger need a Page access token, app secret and verify token, and Instagram needs Meta app review. We don't give a minute count for this. The website widget is a paste, and the phone is tested in the browser during the trial and connected after it. Then you add knowledge, services and hours.

Contract and trial

ManyChat has a free plan without a card, a 14-day free trial on Essential and Pro, and says new plans can be refunded if cancelled within 30 days. Annual plans can't be downgraded until the term ends.

Klugon has a 7-day free trial per product, card required. You're charged when the trial ends unless you cancel first; cancelling during the trial costs nothing. There's no free plan.

Privacy and compliance

Klugon is operated by Softaar Technologies UG, a German company, under the GDPR, with transfers to US providers covered by standard contractual clauses, as listed in our privacy policy. Klugon holds no HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO 27001 or PCI certification. Both tools work within Meta's messaging rules, including the 24-hour window for replies.

Where ManyChat is the better choice

  • Comment-to-DM and follow-to-DM funnels. ManyChat's triggers are its specialism. Klugon doesn't watch comments or follows.
  • Broadcasts. ManyChat sends broadcasts on WhatsApp, Telegram and Messenger. Klugon doesn't.
  • TikTok, SMS and email. ManyChat connects all three. Klugon has none of them as messaging channels.
  • Scripted, predictable flows. If every person must get exactly the same sequence, a flow builder is the right tool.
  • Low cost at high message volume. Pro includes 2,500 Active Contacts for $39/month, or $29/month billed annually. Klugon's social Starter includes 300 conversations for $79.
  • A free start. ManyChat's free plan and no-card sign-up make it easy to try. Klugon asks for a card at the start of the trial.
  • Creators and online brands. ManyChat's templates and examples are built for audience growth and digital product sales.

Where Klugon is the better choice

  • Your phone rings. Klugon answers calls with an AI voice agent and logs them alongside your DMs. ManyChat doesn't list phone answering.
  • You sell appointments. A built-in calendar with services, durations and staff lets the assistant book a real slot instead of sending a link.
  • Your messages are questions, not campaign replies. Klugon answers from your knowledge in free text without you designing a flow for every question.
  • You want one knowledge base for calls, DMs and your website. Write your prices and policies once.
  • You want flat pricing per channel. A set number of conversations or minutes per month, rather than a per-contact count.

Using ManyChat and Klugon together

A setup that plays to both tools' strengths:

  1. Keep ManyChat for comment triggers, follow-to-DM and broadcasts on Instagram and TikTok.
  2. Subscribe to Klugon's voice product and forward your phone to it after the trial.
  3. Put your services, prices and policies into Klugon's knowledge base.

Don't connect both tools to the same Instagram account or WhatsApp number for DM replies, or customers may get two answers to one message. Pick one tool per channel.

How to switch from ManyChat to Klugon

  1. Decide what you'll keep. If you rely on comment triggers or broadcasts, keep ManyChat for those and only move customer-service replies, or keep ManyChat on Instagram and use Klugon for the phone.
  2. Export your contacts from ManyChat if you need them for records or email marketing.
  3. Collect your knowledge. Turn the answers in your flows and AI training into a FAQ document, and upload it to Klugon along with your price list and policies.
  4. Set up services, staff and hours in Klugon's booking calendar.
  5. Start the trial for the social product and, if you want phone answering, the voice product.
  6. Disconnect the channel from ManyChat, then connect WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger to Klugon through Meta's tools. Allow time for Instagram app review.
  7. Connect Slack or Zapier so flagged conversations reach you.
  8. Add the phone once the voice trial ends.

Frequently asked questions

Is Klugon a good ManyChat alternative?

It is if you are a local business that wants an AI to answer real customer questions on Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and the phone, and book appointments. If you want comment triggers, broadcasts or TikTok automation, ManyChat is the better fit.

Does Klugon reply to Instagram comments?

No. Klugon replies to direct messages only. It doesn't watch comments, run keyword triggers or send DMs to people who haven't messaged you.

Can Klugon send WhatsApp broadcasts?

No. Klugon replies to people who message you and doesn't send broadcasts or follow-up sequences. ManyChat offers WhatsApp broadcasts from its Pro plan.

Is Klugon cheaper than ManyChat?

For messaging alone, no. ManyChat's Pro plan includes 2,500 Active Contacts for $39/month, or $29/month billed annually, as of October 2026. Klugon makes more sense when you also want phone calls answered and appointments booked.

Does ManyChat answer phone calls?

ManyChat's pricing and plan pages, as checked in October 2026, list Instagram, TikTok, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email, but not phone call answering.

Does Klugon work with TikTok?

No. Klugon's messaging channels are WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and the website chat widget.

How long does the Instagram setup take?

It depends on Meta. Klugon connects through Meta's developer tools, and Instagram needs app review for the messaging permission before the public can message the assistant. We don't promise a time for this.

Is there a free trial?

Klugon has a 7-day free trial per product, card required, and you pay nothing if you cancel before it ends. ManyChat has a free plan and a 14-day trial on Essential and Pro.

If your DMs are mostly customers asking questions and booking, and the phone is ringing too, Klugon covers both. For website-chat tools, see our Tidio comparison; for text-message platforms, see Klugon vs Podium.
