Both products start at $99 a month, both answer your phone with an AI voice and both book appointments, so on a pricing page they can look almost identical. The differences show up once the phone has been ringing for a month: how many minutes are really included, what you pay after that, whether the AI can text or transfer a caller, and which messaging apps it covers. This page sets out where Klugon works as a My AI Front Desk alternative and where it doesn't.

We build Klugon, so we're not neutral. To keep this useful, every My AI Front Desk fact comes from its own website, checked in October 2026, with links so you can check them yourself. Every Klugon fact matches what our product does today, including its limits. Where My AI Front Desk doesn't publish something, we say so.

The short verdict

Pick My AI Front Desk if you want one subscription that answers calls, sends and receives text messages, makes outbound calls and transfers callers to your team. Its Business-in-a-Box plan bundles 200 voice minutes with two-way SMS, website chat, email drafts and web forms. It records and transcribes calls, sends SMS booking confirmations and reminders, connects to Google Calendar, Outlook and Calendly, and its home page says it is HIPAA compliant with signed BAAs. For a business that takes a modest number of calls and lives on text messages, it's a complete package.

Pick Klugon if you take a lot of calls, or if your customers reach you on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger. Klugon's entry voice plan includes 1,000 minutes against My AI Front Desk's 200, and extra minutes cost $0.15 against $0.25. Its social agent covers the Meta messaging apps, and every channel feeds one inbox. It answers calls in nine published languages and books into a calendar that handles staff, service lengths and buffers. It can't send texts, make outbound calls or transfer a live call, and it isn't HIPAA certified.

Most businesses will know from those two paragraphs which way they lean. The detail follows.

What My AI Front Desk is

My AI Front Desk (it also calls itself Frontdesk) is an AI receptionist from AI Front Desk, Inc. Its home page describes it as an "AI receptionist that calls, texts, emails, and chat", with one shared memory per customer. The AI pulls structured data out of each conversation, such as intent, timing and fields you define, and uses it to trigger follow-up actions.

Its pricing page lists one self-serve plan, Business-in-a-Box, and a custom Partner/Enterprise plan for larger teams and agencies. Usage beyond the plan is paid for with credits. The feature list is long: a phone receptionist, web chatbot, SMS texting agent, email, a built-in CRM, an AI calendar, automated outbound calls and SMS, automations and dashboards.

Klugon as a My AI Front Desk alternative

Klugon is an AI receptionist for small businesses that runs one AI across calls and messages. It's sold as three products you can take separately or together:

  • AI voice agent: answers your phone and voice calls in the browser.
  • AI social agent: answers WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger.
  • AI chatbot: a chat widget for your website, added with one script tag.

All three share your knowledge (services, prices, policies, FAQs and documents), the same built-in booking calendar and one inbox. The AI answers questions, books appointments, captures leads and flags conversations that need a person. Klugon is operated by Softaar Technologies UG, a German company, under the GDPR.

The main difference in approach: My AI Front Desk bundles many channels into one plan with a small allowance of each, while Klugon sells each channel as its own product with a larger allowance. Which is better depends on your mix.

Pricing and overage

On the headline price the two are level: $99 a month, or $79 a month billed yearly. The difference is in what $99 buys and what happens when you go over.

How My AI Front Desk prices

As of October 2026, Business-in-a-Box includes each month:

  • 200 voice minutes;
  • 100 chatbot conversations;
  • 400 SMS messages;
  • 500 email drafts;
  • 300 website form submissions;
  • up to 20 outbound calls a day;
  • a 20-page knowledge base, two agent actions of each type, three notification recipients, Zapier, a verified outbound number and two editor seats.

Usage beyond that is paid in credits, where one credit is $0.01. On the Business plan a voice minute costs 25 credits ($0.25), a chatbot conversation 5 credits, an SMS or a form submission 4 credits. Credits auto-reload at $10 per 1,000, and purchased credits don't expire. The pricing page also describes a monthly pool of 1,000 credits that expires each month. Partner/Enterprise plans are custom, with voice from 7 credits a minute, API access and a dedicated account manager.

How Klugon prices

Klugon's voice agent, as listed on our pricing page:

  • Starter, $99/month ($79 yearly): 1,000 voice minutes, 1 phone number.
  • Business, $299/month ($239 yearly): 3,600 minutes, up to 3 numbers.
  • Scale, $499/month ($399 yearly): 6,000 minutes, unlimited numbers.

Each phone number is $9/month. Extra minutes are $15 per started block of 100. The website chatbot starts at $49/month for 100 conversations and the social agent at $79/month for 300 conversations, plus $19/month when you connect a WhatsApp number. New conversations on chat and social stop at 110% of the allowance until the next month or an upgrade.

Worked examples

These use list prices as of October 2026 and stated assumptions. They ignore tax, yearly discounts and My AI Front Desk's monthly credit pool, which would take up to $10 off its totals.

A quiet practice: 50 calls a month at 3 minutes, plus some website chats. That's 150 minutes.

  • My AI Front Desk: $99, with chat, SMS and email drafts included.
  • Klugon voice Starter: $99 + $9 for the number = $108. Adding the website chatbot brings it to $157.
  • My AI Front Desk is better value at this volume, especially if you want chat too.

A busy salon: 200 calls a month at 3 minutes. That's 600 minutes.

  • My AI Front Desk: $99 + 400 extra minutes × $0.25 = $199.
  • Klugon voice Starter: $108, with 400 minutes of allowance still unused.
  • Klugon is cheaper by about $90 a month on calls alone.

A trades business in its busy season: 300 calls a month at 5 minutes. That's 1,500 minutes.

  • My AI Front Desk: $99 + 1,300 × $0.25 = $424.
  • Klugon voice Starter: $99 + $9 + five blocks of 100 minutes ($75) = $183.
  • Klugon is cheaper by about $240 a month.

The crossover sits at roughly 250 minutes a month. Below that, My AI Front Desk's bundle gives you more for the same money. Above it, Klugon's larger allowance and lower overage rate pull ahead quickly. If you want to estimate your own minutes, our guide to AI receptionist cost explains how.

Channels: texting versus messaging apps

This is where the two products are least alike.

My AI Front Desk covers phone calls, two-way SMS, a web chatbot, email drafting and website forms in its main plan. It also offers automated outbound calls and outbound SMS, with 20 outbound calls a day on Business-in-a-Box. Its SMS texting agent is a central part of the product. WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger aren't listed on its pricing page.

Klugon covers:

  • Phone: inbound calls to a Klugon number, or your existing number forwarded to one.
  • Browser voice: customers can talk to the AI on your website or your Klugon business page.
  • WhatsApp: through Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform and your own WhatsApp Business number. Details on our WhatsApp AI chatbot page.
  • Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger: through your Meta Page; Instagram needs Meta app review first. See Instagram and Messenger automation.
  • Website chat: a text chat widget, added with one script tag. Voice is on your Klugon public page, which you can link to or embed with an iframe. See the AI chatbot for websites.

Every conversation lands in one inbox with channel and status filters. On WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger you can reply yourself from that inbox within Meta's 24-hour window.

Klugon has no SMS of any kind and makes no outbound calls. If your customers are in the US and text you rather than use WhatsApp, or if you want the AI to ring leads back, My AI Front Desk covers that and Klugon doesn't. If your customers are in Europe, Latin America or anywhere WhatsApp is the default, Klugon covers the channel they actually use.

Phone answering and languages

Both products answer around the clock with an AI voice, from the knowledge you give them.

My AI Front Desk's AI phone receptionist page lists "20+" supported languages, routing by reason for call, urgency, language or VIP status, and calls that are "recorded, transcribed, and summarized", with search across every conversation. It also lists pronunciation guides and a post-call SMS.

Klugon's AI phone receptionist answers in English (US or UK), German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese or Arabic, chosen per assistant. You pick from ten AI voices and write your own greeting. Callers can interrupt, and the AI stops and listens. During a call the AI can:

  • answer from your uploaded documents, pasted FAQs and scanned website pages;
  • list your services and prices;
  • check free slots, book an appointment or cancel one;
  • search your product catalogue;
  • take the caller's details as a lead.

On a voice call it can't reschedule (it can in chat and messaging) and it can't take a payment. Every call appears in your inbox with its duration and a message log, but Klugon doesn't record audio, and the log may not include everything the caller said. If you need recordings and full transcripts, My AI Front Desk is ahead here.

On languages, My AI Front Desk claims a longer list. Klugon publishes exactly which nine it supports. If you need a language outside Klugon's nine, My AI Front Desk is the one to check.

Booking and calendars

My AI Front Desk's AI calendar page names Google Calendar, Outlook/Office 365 and Calendly, and says it works with "any major calendar system that supports standard calendar protocols". Customers can reschedule by phone, chat or SMS, or through a link. Confirmations and SMS reminders go out automatically before appointments. Its pricing page adds that bookings handle "complex services, rescheduling & no-show follow-ups automatically".

Klugon books into its own built-in calendar, set up for appointment businesses:

  • opening hours and timezone;
  • services, each with its own length;
  • staff assigned to services, with clashes checked per person;
  • slot interval, buffer after each booking, minimum notice and how far ahead people can book;
  • closed dates.

The AI books on the phone, in website chat and on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, and gives the customer a reference in the conversation. Booking is included on every voice and social plan, and on the chatbot's Business plan and up. On the voice or social Business plan you can also connect Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the AI to check, or Calendly so it can send a booking link. These take some setup.

Klugon doesn't send confirmations or reminders by text, email or WhatsApp. If automatic reminders are how you keep no-shows down, My AI Front Desk does that and Klugon doesn't. Our AI appointment booking page explains the Klugon calendar in full.

Handover to your staff

My AI Front Desk says that when a call needs a human, the AI "warm-transfers or sends a real-time alert with a full transcript". Its phone page describes live-transferring hot leads or urgent calls to the right person "with a spoken context summary before the handoff". Business-in-a-Box includes two agent actions of each type, including call transfer, and three notification recipients.

Klugon doesn't transfer calls. When a caller needs a person, the AI takes their details and flags the conversation. The inbox shows a "Needs a person" banner, and on the Business plan and above the handover is also posted to Slack or sent through Zapier. Your team then calls back, or replies directly on WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger. The AI isn't paused when a conversation is flagged.

If calls must reach a person there and then, choose My AI Front Desk. If a quick call-back works for your business, Klugon's approach is fine, and our post on handing calls to staff shows how to write the rules.

Integrations

My AI Front Desk includes Zapier on Business-in-a-Box and has its own built-in CRM. Its home page mentions direct API connections, and its property management pages list Yardi, RealPage, AppFolio, Entrata and Buildium. API access and custom integrations are on Partner/Enterprise.

Klugon includes:

  • Slack and Zapier: alerts for new leads, bookings and handovers (Business and up).
  • A built-in CRM: leads, customers, notes and internal follow-up tasks.
  • HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive and Salesforce: the AI can send leads to them after setup (Business and up; Salesforce on Scale).
  • Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar and Calendly (Business and up).
  • Notion and Mailchimp: lead rows and audience sign-ups (Business and up).
  • PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB and Supabase: read-only lookups on Scale.

One practical difference: Zapier is on My AI Front Desk's entry plan, while on Klugon it needs the Business plan.

Setup and going live

My AI Front Desk says setup takes "less than 5 minutes" and that you can keep your number by forwarding with *72 or by a full port-in.

With Klugon, you sign up, add your business details, upload or paste your knowledge, add services and hours, and test the assistant in your browser. Then:

  • Phone: after the trial (or on a paid plan), buy a number for $9/month or forward your current number to a Klugon number. We don't port numbers. Our guide to keeping your number with call forwarding explains how. Bringing your own SIP trunk needs Business.
  • Website chat: paste one script tag.
  • WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger: need Meta setup, and Instagram needs Meta app review, which takes longer.

We don't put a minute count on setup; it depends on how much you teach the AI and which channels you connect. For a sense of the work involved, see what to teach your AI receptionist.

Trial, contract and cancelling

My AI Front Desk offers a 7-day free trial on Business-in-a-Box. Its pricing page says "no contracts, no hidden fees" and "cancel anytime", and its pricing FAQ says it doesn't offer a permanently free plan. Whether a card is needed to start the trial isn't stated on the pricing page; trial usage terms link to its terms of service.

Klugon offers a 7-day free trial on each product. A card is required, and it's charged when the trial ends unless you cancel first, in which case you pay nothing. During the trial you can't add a phone number, so you test voice in the browser. You can pay monthly, or yearly to save 20%.

Privacy and compliance

My AI Front Desk's home page says it is HIPAA compliant, with signed BAAs, encryption in transit and at rest, and strict access controls. It also offers on-premises deployment, and audit logs on Enterprise.

Klugon holds no HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO 27001 or PCI certification and doesn't sign BAAs. It is operated by a German company under the GDPR, with transfers to sub-processors outside the EU covered by Standard Contractual Clauses, as listed in our privacy policy. You can export leads, customers and conversations as CSV and request full deletion by email. For clinics, legal and financial businesses, keep the AI to booking and general questions and have a person handle anything clinical, legal or financial.

Where My AI Front Desk is the better choice

Choose My AI Front Desk over Klugon if:

  • You need two-way SMS. Texting is built in, with 400 messages a month. Klugon has no SMS.
  • You need live call transfer. Its warm transfer passes the caller to a person with a spoken summary. Klugon only flags the conversation for a call-back.
  • You want automatic reminders and confirmations. It sends SMS confirmations and reminders before appointments. Klugon confirms only inside the conversation.
  • You want the AI to make outbound calls. Business-in-a-Box allows 20 a day. Klugon takes inbound calls only.
  • You need HIPAA. Its home page says HIPAA compliant with BAAs. Klugon has no HIPAA certification.
  • You want call recordings. Calls are recorded, transcribed and summarised. Klugon doesn't record.
  • You take few calls but use several channels. Below about 250 minutes a month, its bundle of voice, chat, SMS and email for $99 is better value.
  • You want to port your number. It supports port-in. Klugon works by forwarding only.
  • You need a language outside Klugon's nine. It lists 20+.

Where Klugon is the better choice

Choose Klugon over My AI Front Desk if:

  • You take a lot of calls. 1,000 minutes on the entry plan against 200, and $0.15 a minute after that against $0.25.
  • Your customers use WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger. Klugon's social agent answers all three with the same AI and calendar, in one inbox.
  • You want to reply on those apps yourself. Owners can answer WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger conversations from the Klugon inbox.
  • You run a diary with staff and service lengths. Klugon's built-in calendar handles staff, durations, buffers, notice periods and closed dates without connecting another tool.
  • You want a known language list. Klugon publishes exactly which nine languages it answers calls in.
  • You want unlimited assistants. Every Klugon plan allows as many AI assistants as you need.
  • You want a public business page. Each Klugon business gets a page with services, chat, browser voice and a printable QR code.
  • You prefer a European operator. Klugon is run by a German company under the GDPR.

How to switch from My AI Front Desk to Klugon

Run both side by side for a week or two so nothing is missed.

  1. Gather what you've set up. Copy your greeting, knowledge base pages, agent actions, transfer rules and any Zapier workflows into a document. Export the contacts from its CRM if you want them.
  2. Plan for what Klugon doesn't do. Decide how you'll handle reminders, texting and urgent calls without SMS or live transfer. For urgent calls, that usually means a Slack alert and a fast call-back.
  3. Start a Klugon trial. Choose voice, and add social or chat if you want them. A card is required; cancel within 7 days to pay nothing.
  4. Teach the AI. Upload documents, paste FAQs, scan your website and add your services with prices and lengths.
  5. Set up booking. Add opening hours, staff and buffers. On Business, connect Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar or Calendly if you use one.
  6. Connect your messaging apps. Set up WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger through Meta. Allow time for Instagram's app review.
  7. Test in the browser. Try the questions your callers actually ask, including the awkward ones.
  8. Move your number. When the trial ends, get a Klugon number and change your carrier's forwarding to point at it instead of My AI Front Desk. Watch the inbox for a week, then cancel your old plan.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper, My AI Front Desk or Klugon?

It depends on your call volume. Both start at $99 a month. My AI Front Desk includes 200 voice minutes plus chat, SMS and email; Klugon includes 1,000 voice minutes but charges separately for chat and messaging. Above roughly 250 minutes a month, Klugon is usually cheaper for calls; below that, My AI Front Desk's bundle often wins.

Does Klugon send text messages like My AI Front Desk?

No. Klugon has no SMS, so it can't send confirmations, reminders or two-way texts. It answers on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and website chat instead. If texting matters to your customers, My AI Front Desk covers it.

Does My AI Front Desk support WhatsApp?

WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger aren't listed on its pricing page as of October 2026. Check its site for the latest. Klugon covers all three through its social agent, from $79 a month.

Can Klugon transfer a call to my team?

No. Klugon flags the conversation as needing a person, shows it in your inbox and, on Business and up, alerts your team in Slack or Zapier so someone can call back. My AI Front Desk offers warm transfer with a spoken summary.

Can Klugon make outbound calls?

No. Klugon only answers incoming calls. My AI Front Desk includes up to 20 outbound calls a day on Business-in-a-Box.

Can I keep my number if I switch to Klugon?

Which languages does each one support on calls?

Klugon answers calls in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese and Arabic. My AI Front Desk lists "20+ languages" without a full list on its pricing page.

Is either one HIPAA compliant?

My AI Front Desk's home page says it is HIPAA compliant and signs BAAs. Klugon isn't HIPAA certified and doesn't sign BAAs, so it shouldn't handle protected health information.
