If you're reading this, you've probably already tried an AI phone agent or priced one up, and something about it didn't quite fit. Maybe your customers message you on WhatsApp as often as they ring. Maybe you want the AI to speak German or French to callers. Or maybe you just want to check that you're not overpaying before you commit. This page looks at Klugon as a Goodcall alternative, and at the cases where Goodcall is simply the better choice and you should stay put.
We make Klugon, so read this with that in mind. We've tried to be fair: every Goodcall fact below comes from Goodcall's own website, checked in October 2026, and every Klugon fact matches what the product does today, including the things it can't do. Where Goodcall doesn't publish something, we say "not published" rather than guess.
The short verdict
Pick Goodcall if your business lives on the phone and you need the AI to put callers through to a person. Goodcall can transfer a live call to a named contact, with backups if they don't answer. It records and transcribes every call, it can send text messages such as booking confirmations, and its FAQ says it is HIPAA compliant on the Scale plan or above with a signed BAA. Its billing counts unique callers rather than minutes, which suits long calls and businesses with lots of repeat callers. For a phone-only business, its entry price is also lower than ours.
Pick Klugon if the phone is only one of the ways customers reach you. Klugon runs the same AI across phone, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger and a website chat widget, with every conversation landing in one inbox. It answers calls in nine published languages, books into a built-in calendar that understands service lengths, staff and buffers, and bills voice by the minute with a generous allowance. It can't transfer calls or send texts, and it isn't HIPAA certified. If you need any of those, Goodcall is the better fit.
If you're somewhere in between, the rest of this page goes through each point in detail.
What Goodcall is
Goodcall is an AI phone agent for small businesses. According to its home page, it answers calls around the clock, triages callers (new, existing, urgent or spam), qualifies them, captures lead details and sends those details to you by text and email when the call ends. You build and change the agent by describing what you want in plain language to an assistant Goodcall calls Gabi, which writes the greeting and call steps, runs practice calls and publishes changes once you approve them.
Its pricing page describes plans billed by unique customers per month rather than by minute or by call, a local phone number on every plan, and "workers" and "external tools" that let the agent do jobs such as booking or looking things up in another system. External tools can be an API, an MCP server or a block of code you write.
It's a capable, phone-focused product. The question is whether its focus matches yours.
Klugon as a Goodcall alternative
Klugon is an AI receptionist for small businesses that works across calls and messages. It's sold as three separate products you can take on their own or together:
- AI voice agent: answers your phone and browser voice calls.
- AI social agent: answers WhatsApp, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger.
- AI chatbot: a chat widget you add to your website with one script tag.
All three use the same knowledge (your services, prices, policies and FAQs), the same booking calendar and the same inbox. The AI answers questions, books appointments, captures leads and, when something needs a person, flags the conversation for your team. It's operated by a German company, Softaar Technologies UG, under the GDPR.

Pricing: callers versus minutes
This is the biggest structural difference, and it changes which product is cheaper depending on how your calls look.
How Goodcall prices
As of October 2026, Goodcall lists three self-serve plans, all monthly:
- Starter, $79/month: 100 unique customers, then 79¢ each. Goodcall estimates this at about 150 calls.
- Growth, $129/month: 500 unique customers, then 26¢ each. About 750 calls.
- Scale, $299/month: 2,000 unique customers, then 15¢ each. About 3,000 calls.
- Enterprise: custom, with volume pricing, onboarding and an SLA.
A unique customer is "one phone number, once a month", according to Goodcall's FAQ. If the same person rings five times in a month, they count once. Spam and wrong numbers don't count. Minutes aren't metered at all, so a 15-minute call costs the same as a 1-minute one.
Plans also differ in workers (5, 10, 20), external tools (1, 5, 15), team members (1, 5, 10) and how long call history is kept (30 days, 90 days, unlimited). Check the Goodcall pricing page for the current figures, since these change.
How Klugon prices
Klugon's voice product, as listed on our pricing page:
- Starter, $99/month ($79/month billed yearly): 1,000 voice minutes, 1 phone number.
- Business, $299/month ($239 yearly): 3,600 voice minutes, up to 3 phone numbers.
- Scale, $499/month ($399 yearly): 6,000 voice minutes, unlimited numbers.
Each phone number is $9/month on top. Extra minutes are billed at $15 per started block of 100. Every plan allows unlimited AI assistants.
If you want messaging too, the social agent (WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger) starts at $79/month for 300 conversations, and the website chatbot at $49/month for 100 conversations. A connected WhatsApp number adds $19/month. You only pay for the products you switch on.
Worked examples
These use stated assumptions and list prices as of October 2026. They exclude taxes and any yearly discount.
A small trades business: 80 callers a month, 5 minutes a call. That's 80 unique callers and 400 minutes.
- Goodcall Starter: $79.
- Klugon voice Starter: $99 plus $9 for the number, so $108.
- Goodcall is cheaper here.
A busy salon: 350 callers a month, 3 minutes a call, with a few ringing twice. Call it 350 unique callers and 1,200 minutes.
- Goodcall Starter would be $79 plus 250 × 79¢ = $276.50. Goodcall Growth is $129, so you'd pick that.
- Klugon voice Starter: $99 + $9 + two blocks of extra minutes ($30) = $138.
- Goodcall Growth is slightly cheaper.
A clinic with long calls: 400 callers a month, 8 minutes a call. That's 3,200 minutes.
- Goodcall Growth: $129, because minutes aren't metered.
- Klugon voice Starter would be $99 + $9 + 22 blocks ($330) = $438, so you'd move to Business at $299 + $9 = $308.
- Goodcall is clearly cheaper.
The pattern is plain: for phone-only use, Goodcall's caller-based pricing is usually cheaper, and the gap widens as calls get longer. Klugon's price makes more sense when you're also replacing a separate chat tool, a WhatsApp inbox or an Instagram DM setup, because those run on the same knowledge, calendar and inbox. If you only answer the phone, compare the totals for your own call pattern before choosing. Our guide to AI receptionist cost walks through how to estimate your own volumes.
Channels: phone-first or every inbox
Goodcall is built around the phone. Its FAQ says the number can send texts, such as confirmations or links, but can't receive replies yet. Its home page doesn't list WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger or a website chat widget, and they aren't on the pricing page either.
Klugon was built the other way round: one AI, many channels.
- Phone: inbound calls to a Klugon number, or your existing number forwarded to one.
- Browser voice: customers can talk to the AI from your website or your Klugon business page.
- WhatsApp: through Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform, using your own WhatsApp Business number. See our WhatsApp AI chatbot page.
- Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger: connected through your Meta Page. Instagram needs Meta app review before the public can message the AI. More on the Instagram and Messenger automation page.
- Website chat: a text chat widget you add with one script tag. Voice is on your Klugon public page, which you can link to or embed with an iframe. See the AI chatbot for websites.
Every conversation, whatever the channel, appears in one inbox you can search and filter. On WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger you can reply to the customer yourself from that inbox, within Meta's 24-hour window.
What Klugon doesn't do is SMS. It can't send or receive text messages of any kind. If texting is how your customers talk to you, that's a point in Goodcall's favour, even though Goodcall's texting is send-only for now.
Phone answering and languages
Both products answer your phone with an AI voice, around the clock, from your own knowledge.
Goodcall's home page describes triage, qualification and lead capture, recognising returning callers by their phone number, and looking up stock or orders in a connected store system. You set up and change all of this through Gabi, in plain language, and Gabi runs practice calls before publishing. Goodcall doesn't publish a list of supported languages on its website, its FAQ or its help centre, as far as we could find.
Klugon's AI phone receptionist answers in English (US or UK), German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese or Arabic, which you choose per assistant. You pick from ten AI voices and write your own greeting. Callers can interrupt, and the AI stops talking and listens. On a call, the AI can:
- answer questions from your uploaded documents, pasted FAQs and website pages;
- list your services and prices;
- check available slots, book an appointment or cancel one;
- search your product catalogue;
- take a caller's details as a lead.
It can't reschedule a booking on a voice call (it can in chat and messaging), and it can't take a payment over the phone.
Every Klugon call appears in your inbox with its duration and a message log. We don't record calls, and the log may not include everything the caller said, so if you need full recordings and two-sided transcripts for training or disputes, Goodcall's "every call is recorded and transcribed" is a real advantage.
Booking appointments
Goodcall's FAQ says its current agent has connections for Google Calendar, Google Sheets and HighLevel, and that other systems need a configured API tool or MCP server. Its home page describes the agent checking your calendar, offering open times, booking, and texting everyone the details. Goodcall's appointment scheduling page mostly links to articles and doesn't list further calendar connections.
Klugon books into its own calendar, which is built for appointment businesses. You set:
- opening hours and timezone;
- services, each with its own duration;
- which staff do which services, with clashes checked per person;
- slot interval, buffer time after bookings, minimum notice and how far ahead people can book;
- closed dates.
The AI books on the phone, in chat and on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, and gives the customer a booking reference in the conversation. Booking is included on every voice and social plan, and on the chatbot's Business plan and up. On the voice or social Business plan and above, you can also connect Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar so the AI can check them, or Calendly so it can send a booking link. These need some setup; Google Calendar, for example, connects through a service account rather than a one-click sign-in.
Klugon doesn't send booking confirmations or reminders by text, email or WhatsApp. The confirmation is the reply in the conversation itself. If you depend on reminder texts to cut no-shows, that's a gap. Our AI appointment booking page sets out exactly how it works.
Handover to your staff
This is where the two products differ most in practice, so it's worth being precise.
Goodcall can transfer a live call. Its FAQ says you "configure an escalation contact so the agent can transfer the caller to a person". It retries busy lines and can try up to three contacts. The home page also mentions taking a message, sending a self-service link and scheduling a callback.
Klugon can't transfer a call. When a caller needs a person, the AI takes their details, flags the conversation as needing a person, and the inbox shows a "Needs a person" banner. On the Business plan and above, that handover also posts to Slack or fires a Zapier event, so you can route it to wherever your team looks. Your team then calls the customer back. On messaging channels, a team member can reply from the inbox directly. The AI isn't paused when a conversation is flagged, so it may keep replying until you step in.
If your business has calls that must reach a human there and then, such as emergency call-outs or a solicitor's urgent intake, Goodcall's transfer is the right tool. If a fast call-back is acceptable, Klugon's handover works well, and our post on handing calls to staff covers how to set the rules.
Integrations and custom tools
Goodcall is strong here for technical users. External tools can be an API, an MCP server or code you write, and each counts once against your plan however many workers use it. Starter includes one, Growth five, Scale fifteen. Goodcall also has a Zapier integration for its earlier agent version and a native HighLevel connection.
Klugon's integrations are aimed at owners rather than developers:
- Slack and Zapier: alerts for new leads, bookings and handovers (Business plan and up).
- HubSpot, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive and Salesforce: the AI can send leads to your CRM after setup (Business plan and up; Salesforce on Scale).
- Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar and Calendly: as described above.
- Notion and Mailchimp: lead rows and audience sign-ups (Business plan and up).
- PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB and Supabase: read-only lookups you define, on Scale.
If you want to wire the AI into your own systems with an MCP server or custom code, Goodcall gives you more room.
Setup and getting live
With Goodcall, you build a free demo agent with Gabi, test it, and only pay when you add a phone number. You can take a new local number or keep your existing number and forward calls to Goodcall. Its FAQ notes that forwarding instructions vary by carrier and that Google Voice and Ooma only support forwarding every call.
With Klugon, you sign up, add your business details, upload or paste your knowledge, set up services and opening hours, and test the assistant in your browser. Then:
- Phone: after the trial ends (or on a paid plan), buy a number for $9/month or forward your existing number to a Klugon number. We don't port numbers. Our guide to keeping your number with call forwarding explains the forwarding route. Bringing your own SIP trunk needs the Business plan.
- Website chat: paste one script tag. This is the quickest part.
- WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger: need Meta setup, and Instagram needs Meta app review. This takes longer than a phone number.
We don't give a minute count for setup, because it depends on how much you teach the AI and which channels you connect.
Trial, contract and cancelling
Goodcall has no free trial in the usual sense, according to its FAQ. You get a free demo agent to build and test, and billing starts when you add a phone number and choose a plan. Every plan is month to month and there are no annual plans. If you downgrade to the free demo agent, your phone number is released.
Klugon offers a 7-day free trial on each product. A card is required at sign-up, and it's charged when the trial ends unless you cancel first, in which case you pay nothing. During the trial you can't buy a phone number, so you test voice in the browser. You can pay monthly or yearly; yearly saves 20%.
On this point Goodcall is more relaxed: you can build and test without handing over a card.
Privacy and compliance
Goodcall's FAQ says it is HIPAA compliant if you choose the Scale plan or Enterprise and sign a BAA. Its home page also says it is SOC 2 compliant. If you handle US patient information over the phone, that matters, and it is a reason to choose Goodcall.
Klugon holds no HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO 27001 or PCI certification, and we don't sign BAAs. Klugon is operated by a German company under the GDPR, and transfers to sub-processors outside the EU are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses, as listed in our privacy policy. You can export your leads, customers and conversations as CSV and request full deletion by email. Clinics and other regulated businesses should keep the AI to booking and general questions, and have a person handle anything clinical, legal or financial.
Where Goodcall is the better choice
To be specific about it, choose Goodcall over Klugon if:
- You need live call transfer. Goodcall can put a caller through to a named person, retry busy lines and try up to three contacts. Klugon can only flag the conversation for a call-back.
- You need HIPAA. Goodcall offers it with a BAA on Scale or Enterprise. Klugon has no HIPAA certification.
- You want call recordings. Goodcall records and transcribes every call. Klugon doesn't record calls.
- You want texts to go out. Goodcall can send confirmations and links by text. Klugon has no SMS.
- Your calls are long or callers ring back often. Unique-caller billing means a long call or a repeat caller costs nothing extra.
- You only need the phone answered. For phone-only use, Goodcall's entry price of $79/month with a number included is lower than Klugon's $108.
- You want to connect your own systems. API tools, MCP servers and custom code give developers more control.
- You want to try before giving a card. The free demo agent needs no payment until you add a number.
Where Klugon is the better choice
Choose Klugon over Goodcall if:
- Customers message you as well as call. One AI answers the phone, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and your website chat, with one inbox and one set of knowledge.
- You serve customers in several languages. Klugon answers calls in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese and Arabic. Goodcall doesn't publish its languages.
- You run an appointment book with staff. Klugon's built-in calendar handles service lengths, staff assignment, buffers, notice periods and closed dates, without connecting another tool.
- You want to reply from the same place. On WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger you can answer the customer yourself from Klugon's inbox.
- You prefer predictable minutes. 1,000 voice minutes on the entry plan covers a lot of short calls, and extra minutes are $15 per 100.
- You want a public booking page. Every Klugon business gets a page with services, chat, browser voice and a QR code to print.
- You're in Europe and want a European operator. Klugon is run by a German company under the GDPR.
How to switch from Goodcall to Klugon
If you decide to move, you can run both side by side for a while so no calls are missed.
- Export what you've taught Goodcall. Copy your greeting, the questions and answers, your call flows and your escalation rules into a document.
- Start a Klugon trial. Pick the voice product, and add social or chat if you want them. A card is needed; you won't be charged if you cancel within 7 days.
- Teach the AI. Upload your documents, paste your FAQs, scan your website and add your services with prices and durations. Our post on what to teach your AI receptionist has a checklist.
- Set up booking. Add opening hours, staff and buffers. On Business, connect Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar or Calendly if you use one.
- Decide your handover rules. Write down what the AI should flag for a person, and connect Slack or Zapier (Business and up) so your team sees handovers quickly. Remember there's no live transfer, so plan call-backs.
- Test in the browser. Call the assistant from the browser and try your awkward questions.
- Get a number when the trial ends. Buy a Klugon number or forward your existing number to one. Your carrier's forwarding codes do the rest.
- Move the forwarding. Point your business number's forwarding at Klugon instead of Goodcall, watch the inbox for a week, then downgrade or cancel Goodcall.
Frequently asked questions
Is Klugon cheaper than Goodcall?
For phone answering alone, usually not. Goodcall starts at $79/month with a number included and doesn't meter minutes, while Klugon's voice plan is $99/month plus $9 for a number. Klugon becomes better value when you also need website chat, WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger, because those share the same AI, calendar and inbox.
Can Klugon transfer calls to my staff like Goodcall?
No. Klugon can't put a caller through to a person. It takes the caller's details, flags the conversation in your inbox and, on Business and up, alerts your team in Slack or Zapier so someone can call back. Goodcall can transfer live calls to up to three contacts.
Does Klugon record calls?
No. Every call appears in your inbox with its duration and a message log, but Klugon doesn't keep audio recordings. Goodcall's FAQ says every call is recorded and transcribed.
Which languages does each one speak on calls?
Klugon answers calls in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese and Arabic. Goodcall doesn't publish a list of supported languages on its site as of October 2026, so ask them directly.
Can I keep my phone number if I switch?
Yes, with either product, by forwarding. Keep your number with your current carrier and forward calls to a Klugon number. Klugon doesn't port numbers, and a number can only be added once the trial has ended.
Is there a free trial?
Klugon has a 7-day free trial; a card is required and isn't charged if you cancel before the trial ends. Goodcall has no free trial but gives you a free demo agent and starts billing when you add a phone number.
Is either one HIPAA compliant?
Goodcall's FAQ says it is HIPAA compliant on Scale or Enterprise with a signed BAA. Klugon isn't HIPAA certified and doesn't sign BAAs, so it isn't suitable for handling protected health information.
Can Klugon send text messages?
No. Klugon has no SMS, so booking confirmations come as a reply in the conversation itself. Goodcall can send texts such as confirmations and links, though its FAQ says it can't receive replies yet.
