You've tried Rosie, or you're about to. It answers the phone, learns your business from your website and Google profile, and texts you the details. For plenty of small businesses that's the whole job. You're reading this because something doesn't quite fit: your minutes keep running out, half your customers message you on WhatsApp instead of ringing, you take calls in German or Arabic, or you want bookings to respect which staff member does which service. That's when people start looking for a Rosie AI alternative.
Rosie and Klugon are much closer than the developer platforms we compare elsewhere. Both are built for small businesses and both are set up by describing your business, not by building flows. The differences are in the details: transfers, texting, recordings, channels, languages, booking and how minutes are priced. Klugon is an AI receptionist for small business that's stronger on some of those and weaker on others, and we'll be specific about both.
Facts about Rosie come from its own website and terms, checked in October 2026. Where Rosie doesn't publish something, we say "not published".
The short verdict
Pick Rosie if you want an AI answering service that can transfer callers to you live, text callers during and after calls, record calls, send you email and text notifications, and come with phone apps. It's English and Spanish, and it starts at $49 a month.
Pick Klugon if you want the same phone answering plus WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and a website chat in one inbox, calls answered in nine languages, a booking calendar that understands services and staff, and more included minutes per dollar at 1,000 minutes and above. Klugon doesn't transfer calls, send texts, record calls or email you alerts, so those are the trade-offs.
What Rosie is
Rosie describes itself as "the easiest AI answering service for small business". Its homepage lists home services, law firms, property management, construction, real estate, plumbing, automotive and salons among the businesses it serves. You forward your existing number to Rosie, either for every call or just after hours and overflow, using conditional call forwarding.
Rosie trains itself from your Google Business Profile and website, and you add FAQs and the details you want taken for each type of call. It answers 24/7, handles several calls at once, blocks spam, and sends you a summary of each call by text and email. Every plan includes call summaries, transcripts and recordings, native iOS and Android apps, a website chat widget, more than ten voices, English and Spanish, and a Zapier connection.
Higher plans add calendar booking, warm and live transfers, and texting callers during calls.
Klugon as a Rosie AI alternative: what it is
Klugon is an AI receptionist that answers on the phone, in the browser, in a website chat widget, and on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger once connected. You add your services with durations, your opening hours, staff, FAQs and policies; you can upload documents or scan your website.
On a call it can list services, check free slots, book, cancel, search products and your knowledge, and take a caller's details as a lead. Bookings go into Klugon's built-in calendar. Calls, chats and messages all land in one inbox.
It doesn't transfer calls live, send SMS, make outbound calls, record calls, or email you alerts. Notifications go to Slack or Zapier, on the Business plan and up.

Pricing compared
Rosie's plans
As of October 2026, Rosie's pricing page lists:
| Plan | Monthly | Minutes | Booking | Transfers |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Professional | $49 | 250 | Texts booking links | None listed |
| Scale | $149 | 1,000 | Books into your calendar | Warm and live |
| Growth | $299 | 2,000 | Books into your calendar | Adds waterfall transfers |
| Enterprise | Not published | Not published | Not published | Not published |
Rosie says annual billing gives you two months free. Website texting is an add-on at $50 a month for 25 conversations, then $1 each.
Rosie doesn't publish a per-minute overage rate. Its terms of service say that if you go over your plan's minutes, Rosie automatically upgrades you to a higher plan, and you stay on that plan going forward until you change it. The terms also say payments are non-refundable.
Klugon's plans
Klugon's pricing, in US dollars:
| Voice plan | Monthly | Yearly (per month) | Voice minutes | Phone numbers allowed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $99 | $79 | 1,000 | 1 |
| Business | $299 | $239 | 3,600 | 3 |
| Scale | $499 | $399 | 6,000 | Unlimited |
A phone number is $9 a month. Extra minutes cost $15 per started block of 100, so going over doesn't change your plan. The website chat and the social channels are separate plans, listed on the plan cards.
Worked examples
A quiet month. A solo electrician gets 60 calls a month at about three minutes: 180 minutes. Rosie Professional at $49 covers it. Klugon Starter costs $99 plus $9 for a number. Rosie is clearly cheaper here, and it includes texting booking links.
A steady practice. A small dental practice takes about 1,000 minutes of calls a month. Rosie Scale is $149, and includes calendar booking and live transfers. Klugon Starter is $99 plus $9, so $108, and includes booking into Klugon's own calendar but no transfers. Klugon is cheaper; Rosie does more on the phone.
A busy month. A salon hits 2,600 minutes. On Rosie, that's past Growth's 2,000 minutes, and per its terms, Rosie would move the account to a higher plan; the next plan, Enterprise, isn't priced publicly. On Klugon Business at $299, 3,600 minutes are included, so the cost is $299 plus $9 for the number.
The pattern is simple: under about 250 minutes, Rosie is cheaper. Around 1,000 minutes, Klugon costs less but Rosie includes transfers and texting. Above 2,000 minutes, Klugon's allowances are larger. Our AI receptionist cost guide has more examples.
Channels: phone and texting vs phone and messaging apps
Rosie is phone-first. It also includes a website chat widget on every plan and offers website texting as a paid add-on. Its notifications to you go by email and text, and its mobile apps let you follow calls from your phone.
Klugon spreads wider across the messaging apps small-business customers already use:
- Inbound phone on a Klugon number, a forwarded number, or your own SIP trunk (Business tier and up).
- Browser voice from your website or your Klugon business page.
- Website chat widget by pasting one script tag. See the AI chatbot for websites.
- WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger on the social plan, after connecting your Meta accounts. Instagram needs Meta's app review. The WhatsApp AI chatbot page explains the setup.
Everything sits in one inbox, and you can reply yourself on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger within Meta's 24-hour window.
What Klugon lacks: SMS, mobile apps and email or push alerts. You follow activity in the web dashboard, or in Slack if you connect it.
Languages and voices
Rosie answers in English and Spanish on every plan, with more than ten voices and a custom agent name and greeting.
Klugon answers calls in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese or Arabic, chosen per assistant, with ten voices and your own greeting. If you serve customers in more than two languages, or you're a business outside the US and UK, that range matters.
Booking appointments
Booking with Rosie
On the Professional plan, Rosie texts callers a scheduling link. From Scale upwards, Rosie says it connects directly to Google Calendar and Calendly: it checks your availability, offers times and creates the event in your calendar.
Booking with Klugon
Klugon has its own booking calendar, which you set up with:
- opening hours and timezone;
- slot lengths, buffers and minimum notice;
- how far ahead people can book, and closed dates;
- service durations and the staff who do each service.
The AI checks slots per staff member and books, giving the customer a reference in the conversation. In chat and messaging it can also reschedule; on the phone it can book and cancel but not reschedule. You can edit bookings in the dashboard. This works on every voice plan, without connecting another calendar.
On the Business tier and up, you can connect Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar so the AI checks busy times and adds events, or Calendly so it sends single-use booking links. These need setup and aren't automatic two-way sync. See AI appointment booking for more.
Klugon sends no confirmations or reminders after the conversation ends, by text, email or WhatsApp.
Handover to staff
Rosie lists warm and live transfers on Scale, and waterfall transfers, which try several numbers in turn, on Growth. That means a caller who needs you can be put through while still on the line.
Klugon can't transfer a call. When someone needs a person, it:
- Marks the conversation as escalated, with a "Needs a person" banner in the inbox.
- Notifies Slack or Zapier (Business plan and up).
- Takes the caller's details so you can ring back.
There's no email or text alert to you, and the AI carries on replying after flagging. If live transfer is how your business works, Rosie on Scale or Growth is the better fit. If you usually return calls between appointments, Klugon's approach covers it. Our guide to handing calls to staff covers how to set that up.
Recordings, transcripts and records
Rosie includes call recordings and transcripts on every plan. Its terms say it provides template notices to tell callers they're being recorded, and that you decide whether to use them and are responsible for following the law on recording.
Klugon doesn't record calls. Every call appears in your inbox as a conversation with a duration and message log, though it may show only the assistant's side of the call rather than a full two-way transcript. If you rely on listening back to calls, Rosie is stronger here. If you'd rather not hold recordings at all, Klugon avoids the question. In the UK, the ICO's guidance for organisations is the place to check your duties either way.
Setup effort
Both are quick compared with building a voice agent.
Rosie scans your website and Google Business Profile, you confirm the details, add FAQs and message requirements, and forward your number. Rosie's FAQ says you keep your existing number and its team walks you through call forwarding.
Klugon:
- Sign up and enter your business details.
- Add services, hours and staff.
- Paste FAQs, upload documents, or scan your website (home page plus up to seven key pages).
- Choose a voice, language and greeting.
- Test in your browser during the 7-day trial.
- After the trial, buy a number or forward your existing one. Our call forwarding guide walks through it.
One difference to plan for: Klugon can't connect a phone number during the trial, so phone testing happens in the browser until the trial ends.
A sample call on Klugon
A sample call. The business is made up.
The booking goes into Laura's column. The pain question is flagged in the inbox and posted to the practice's Slack channel, and someone calls back. On Rosie's Scale plan, the same caller could be transferred to the front desk straight away. On Klugon, they're called back.
Questions to settle before you choose
These two products are close enough that the decision usually comes down to a few plain questions about how your business runs.
Who picks up when the AI can't help?
If there's always someone who can take a transferred call, such as a front desk or an owner who'll answer between jobs, Rosie's transfers on Scale are worth paying for. If nobody can reliably answer in the moment, a transfer often ends in voicemail anyway. Then a flagged conversation with the caller's details, which is what Klugon gives you, does the same job.
Where do your customers contact you?
Look at last month. Count calls, website enquiries, WhatsApp messages and Instagram DMs. If calls are nearly everything, Rosie's phone focus suits you. If a third or more arrives in messaging apps, having those in the same inbox as calls is the main reason to pick Klugon.
How many minutes do you really use?
Your phone bill or carrier dashboard will tell you. Multiply calls by average length. Under 250 minutes, Rosie Professional is hard to beat on price. Over 2,000, check Rosie's upgrade rule in its terms against Klugon's per-100 overage.
Do you need texts?
Many trades rely on texting a booking link or a "we're on our way" message. Rosie texts callers; Klugon doesn't text at all. If texting is part of how you work, that alone may decide it.
Does your booking depend on who's working?
A salon where only two stylists do colour, or a clinic where each practitioner has different hours, needs per-staff availability. Klugon's built-in calendar handles that on every voice plan. With Rosie, booking depends on how your Google Calendar or Calendly is set up, and starts on the Scale plan.
How to tell whether it's working
Give whichever you pick two weeks, then check:
- Missed calls. Compare your carrier's missed-call count with the month before.
- Bookings taken by the AI. Klugon's analytics page shows bookings, phone calls, minutes talked and the share handled without a handover.
- Flagged conversations. Klugon's insights page lists questions without a good answer. Add those answers to your knowledge.
- Callback speed. For anything flagged, time how long it took someone to ring back.
- The bill. On Rosie, check whether you were moved up a plan. On Klugon, check for extra-minute charges.
Where Rosie is the better choice
- You need live call transfer. Rosie offers warm and live transfers on Scale and waterfall transfers on Growth. Klugon only flags the conversation.
- You want texting. Rosie texts booking links, texts callers during calls on Scale, and offers website texting. Klugon sends no SMS.
- You want recordings. Rosie records calls on every plan. Klugon doesn't.
- You want alerts on your phone. Rosie sends email and text notifications and has iOS and Android apps. Klugon notifies through Slack or Zapier only, on the Business plan and up.
- You get few calls. At 250 minutes or fewer, Rosie Professional at $49 costs less than any Klugon voice plan.
- You want no card at sign-up. Rosie's pricing page says no credit card is required to start its trial. Klugon's trial requires a card.
Where Klugon is the better choice
- Your customers message you. WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, website chat and calls share one inbox.
- You speak more than English and Spanish. Klugon answers calls in nine languages.
- You need staff-aware booking without another calendar. Klugon's calendar handles services, durations, buffers and per-staff availability on every voice plan.
- You use a lot of minutes. Klugon includes 1,000 minutes at $99 and 3,600 at $299, and extra minutes are billed in blocks rather than moving you to a higher plan.
- You want calls answered without holding recordings. Klugon doesn't record calls.

How to switch from Rosie to Klugon
- Copy your business details. Take the FAQs, message requirements and greeting you set up in Rosie's admin. Paste them into Klugon or upload them as documents.
- Set up services and staff. Add each service with its duration, plus your opening hours, closed dates and who does what, so the calendar can offer real slots.
- Plan for transfers. If you relied on Rosie's live transfers, decide who will return flagged calls and connect Slack or Zapier so they hear about them.
- Plan for texts. If you relied on Rosie texting booking links, Klugon can share links in chat and messaging but not by SMS. Make sure callers get what they need during the call.
- Test in the browser. Use the 7-day trial to ask the assistant your most common questions, in each language you serve.
- Switch the forwarding. After the trial, get a Klugon number and change your call forwarding from Rosie's number to Klugon's. If you only forwarded after hours or overflow, keep the same conditions.
- Cancel Rosie. Per Rosie's terms, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle and payments aren't refunded, so time the switch near your renewal date.
The after-hours answering page covers how to set up conditional forwarding if you only want the AI outside opening hours.
Frequently asked questions
Is Klugon cheaper than Rosie?
At low volumes, no: Rosie Professional is $49 for 250 minutes, as of October 2026. At about 1,000 minutes, Klugon Starter is $99 against Rosie Scale at $149, though Rosie's plan includes transfers and texting. Above 2,000 minutes, Klugon Business includes 3,600 minutes for $299.
What happens if I go over my minutes on Rosie or Klugon?
Rosie's terms say it automatically moves you to a higher plan and keeps you there going forward. Klugon bills extra minutes at $15 per started 100 and leaves your plan unchanged.
Can Klugon transfer calls like Rosie?
No. Klugon flags the conversation for your team, shows it as needing a person, and notifies Slack or Zapier. Rosie offers warm and live transfers on its Scale plan and above.
Does Klugon send text messages?
No. Klugon sends no SMS of any kind. Rosie texts booking links and, on Scale, texts callers during calls.
Does Klugon record calls?
No. Calls appear in your inbox, but there are no recordings. Rosie includes recordings and transcripts on every plan.
Can I keep my phone number when switching from Rosie?
Yes. Both work by forwarding your existing number. With Klugon you forward to a Klugon number after the trial, or point your own SIP trunk at it on the Business tier. Number porting isn't supported.
Does Klugon work on WhatsApp and Instagram?
Yes, on the separate social plan, after you connect your Meta accounts. Instagram also needs Meta's app review before the public can message it. Rosie's homepage and pricing page don't list WhatsApp or Instagram.
Is Rosie or Klugon HIPAA compliant?
Klugon isn't: it holds no HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO 27001 or PCI certification. Rosie's homepage and pricing page don't mention HIPAA, so its status is not published there; ask Rosie directly.
If messaging apps, languages or staff-aware booking are what you're missing, try Klugon's AI phone receptionist in your browser during the trial. If transfers, texting and recordings are what you rely on, Rosie is the better fit, and there's no shame in staying.
